This week, the fashion world’s favorite fashion designer Mehndi Kaul, who is also the founder of the women’s fashion and fashion-forward lifestyle brand Rhinestone, sat down with The Lad to talk about how she went about creating her own fashion brand, the evolution of her design studio and her latest project, Crossbody bags.
Designing for women and gender diversityDesigning is not an overnight process, and it’s not easy.
Mehndia said the journey to the brand’s launch in 2012, when she and her husband began working on Crossbody, was particularly challenging, because she had been a little more aware of her own gender as a woman.
“We started working on crossbody as a brand because we wanted to do something with a gender-neutral label, something that felt more inclusive,” Mehndiya said.
After many design iterations, Mehndibh and her team finally settled on CrossBody as their “official brand” in 2014. “
It was a very, very long journey.”

After a long and painful process of sourcing and designing various pieces from different brands, they finally landed on the design team of designer Mehrdi Kana, who specializes in crossbody designs.
The process of developing the brand, Mehrdia said, was a gradual evolution.
“I would say I got used to doing crossbody on the first day.
I was like, this is going to be easy,” she said.
After months of refinement, the designs that Mehndis team created for Crossbody eventually made their way to the public.
Mehndia’s team had the following ideas for CrossBody bags:Design for a woman’s silhouetteDesign for the brand to be more feminineDesign for men to feel more masculineDesign for women to feel feminineThe team also developed a brand identity for the collection, which featured a series of silhouettes that reflected the diverse styles of women and men, while retaining the iconic Crossbody aesthetic.
“There’s a lot of design and branding that goes into crossbody, but the design is really one of a person,” Mehrdiya said, explaining that there’s a certain feeling of elegance to it.
“The women’s collection, for example, is kind of a very masculine collection.
There’s a very strong, masculine feel to it.”
The collection was initially designed to represent the style of crossbody and was eventually given the name Crossbody Bags, after the designer’s own personal style.
The collection included a range of bags that showcased the designer and her brand’s unique brand identity.
“The Crossbody brand has always been about the idea of cross body, and that’s the foundation for the bag,” Mehthia said.
She also explained that the brand was designed around the idea that “cross body bags are for you to feel good, to have confidence in yourself, to feel empowered.”
In an interview with the magazine, Mehindia also shared her thoughts on what she believes are some of the main challenges women face in creating their own designs: “We all have different skills and experiences.
Designing a collection in a specific, iconic styleWhen it comes to creating Crossbody collections, MehNDi said that the majority of her time is spent designing the brand. “
But also, it’s about giving our customers a unique experience that they can use and relate to.”

“For the last two years, I’ve been working on this brand,” she explained.
“There’s so much I want to do, and I’m so excited to get started on this journey.”
The brand’s first Crossbody collection was designed by Mehndika Kaul in 2017, which showcased the brand in a wide range of styles, from traditional to contemporary.
“This is my most iconic collection, the modern collection,” MehNDia said of the collection.
“When I’m designing a collection, I want the collection to feel really iconic.
A lot of the crossbody collections from the brand reflect the diverse experiences of women in the fashion industry. “
So, I’m looking for something that has a unique look, something different, something to be different from the other women’s collections.”

MehNDiya said that crossbody also incorporates a range from a “modern, hip, contemporary look” to a “femme-flamme, more feminine look.”
She also explained how crossbody pieces often include a mix of traditional and contemporary pieces.
